Dear New Fifth Grade Readers,

In preparation for fifth grade, you are being asked to read at least three books this summer. One book has already been picked for you by your fifth grade teacher. It’s Half and Half by Lensey Namioka. The other two book choices are up to you. One of the two must be from the selected list of teacher recommended books below. If you were a student at Applewild last year, you have already selected this book and been assigned to a group:

• Ban This Book by Alan Gratz (with Mrs. Buck)
• Framed! by James Ponti ( Mrs. Lent)
• Nightmares! (Nightmares! Book 1) by J. Segal and K. Miller (with Mr. Schrader)

So you won’t forget the books you read, you will need to complete three novel review sheets. (Look above)

Your teacher and I look forward to seeing all of you this fall and hearing your reactions to the books. Of course, I encourage you to read more than three books this summer, if you have the time . . . Summer can be the perfect time to catch up on titles you never got to during the school year.
